WELCOME COCKTAIL | Thursday, 10 May 2018 | 19:00-20:30

Ladies and Gentlemen Welcome to Casa das Histórias Paula Rego (Paula Rego House of Stories) in Cascais!

This emblematic and well known Cascais Museum was designed by the famous Eduardo Souto de Moura  (awarded with the Pritzker Prize in 2011)

The art collection presented here consists of an extraordinary group of paintings, drawings and etchings produced by the artist Paula Rego, who was born in Cascais, representing roughly 50 years of her artistic career that she mostly spent abroad in London.

The garden area surrounding the Museum building with its dominant red chimney like towers is a perfect spot for a welcome reception connecting the cultural environment of the museum with the typical pine trees of the Cascais beach area.

The APTF is happy and proud to announce that the Cascais Cultural Heritage Foundation has generously accepted to welcome the 10th CPLOL Congress welcome reception to take place in Museum and gardens.

Please remember to wear your badge.

Note: the Presidents Palace has been requested for official use on the date of our welcome reception and as such the location is changed to the Paula Rego Museum located opposite from the Presidents palace in Cascais.

Join us for the Celebration of the 30th anniversary of CPLOL and the 40th anniversary of the local host association APTF.

The Palácio Estoril Hotel - A hotel where history is made.

Royalties, Spies and Movie stars all met at the Hotel Palacio and in May 2018 May this will be the setting for CPLOL to celebrate its 20th Anniversary together with the APTF 40th Anniversary.
The hotel was built in 1930, the hotel retains many of the characteristics of that period with an ambience of timeless sophistication, beautiful gardens and an elegant classic decor updated over the years but not losing its charm.
During the Second World War, due to Portugal's neutrality several royal families went into exile in Estoril, known as the "Coast of Kings". The Palácio Estoril was the second home of the Spanish, Italian, French, Bulgarian and Romanian royal families but not only … it became the haunt of British and German spies, who could often be found in its bar.
Later, the stories of intrigue and espionage inspired famous novelists and filmmakers and the Hotel served as the set for the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". It is also believed that Ian Fleming got the inspiration to his first book “Casino Royale” when staying at the Hotel Palacio.

Dinner guests will be welcomed at the garden gate and the three course dinner including beverages is served in the ball room overlooking the same.

Please remember to wear your badge.
